Kenny Omega at DDT Part 7
Jun. 20th, 2019 08:13 pm
This post covers the second part of Kenny's 4th visit to Japan: August 9th - September 5th 2009
Previous: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6
August 9th - The Last Night of Beer Garden
Kenny and Ibushi don't team on the last night of beer garden. Kenny is in a 6-man tag teaming with Mike Angels and Kudo against three of the Italian four horsemen. They win and come out later to challenge for the KO-D tag belts and a 4-way tag match is set for Ryogoku.

Meanwhile Ibushi is in the main event teaming with Ishii Keisuke againts HARASHIMA & Abe Yukihiro. At one point Ibushi puts Abe in a camel clutch so he can eat ice-cream. He feeds some to Abe but then shoves it in his nose! Not kind!!

Ibushi is challenging HARASHIMA for the KO-D Openweight title at Ryōgoku and this match is part of the build for that.

Beer garden has ended without serious injury this year! (Apart from Kenny and Michael, the crowd points out)
Everyone cheers to the success of the Ryogoku show.

August 10th - Beer Garden finished! - Game & Karaoke competition
Beer garden is over. Michael Nakazawa is tired and glad to have a day off. He, Kenny, Ibushi and Mike Angels all go to the usual bar in Ikebukuro. They play Tatsunoko vs Capcom and sing Karaoke.

August 12th - OPG practice and Kenny Omega and Mike Angels
It's a hot day. Michael and Kota train at OPG.
Kenny hangs out with Jason Geiger, Isamu Sugiuchi and Mike Angels.

August 13th - Mike and Kenny go to Midbreath

(source)
This may be from earlier actually but the Midbreath blog uploaded it on this date to advertise the event that was happening the next day...
August 14th - Everyone else goes to Midbreath
DDT hold a press conference/Q&A session at Midbreath to build up the Ryogoku show. Ibushi shows up in my personal favorite of his t-shirts from this era: '(WHO'S) A YELLOW RUBY?'

(source)
Dino interviews Ibushi about various things. He talks briefly about his relationship with Kenny and their communication but I don't understand it. I include it here for posterity, or in case anyone wants to take a crack at it in the comments.
Afterwards Takanashi fights Michael Nakazawa in the gym.

August 15th - Keiokaku Velodrome - HARASHIMA & Yukihiro Abe vs Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega
There is a show at the Keiokaku Velodrome. The golden lovers fight HARASHIMA & Yukihiro Abe. This is more build up for Ibushi's championship match at Ryogoku with HARASHIMA.

The golden lovers pin Abe for the win and Ibushi thanks everyone for coming, the next DDT show is Ryogoku!

(source)
Afterwards they all go out to eat curry. Toba takes a sneaky over the shoulder picture of Kenny for his blog. It's 'a good time eating delicious food.'

August 18th - Recent Kenny information

Everyone enjoys a week of downtime. Michael visits home and struggles to explain the anal bombings to his parents. He invites Kenny to his home for dinner and Michael's wife makes smoked salmon salad for him because it's Canadian food. They go shopping and Kenny buys flowers for the person in Ikebukuro who always looks after him. The next Kenny Omega Dropkick is tomorrow night! Michael will be there to interpret as usual.
August 19th - Kenny Omega Night at Dropkick

Griffon591:
Kenny: “I have a lot of Canadians today, so I would like to make the Canadian waffles I made in the first round. I made a slight modification to the Canadian waffle set. I'm glad if you like it. Please enjoy it today. "
Michael: "I'm telling you to refrain from shitaneta today."
Kenny: "I have a question before you start. Are there anyone looking forward to Kenny's English conversation class today?"
Naturally, only men raised their hands. Kenny who saw this has a displeased look
Kenny "Only men ... NO DUDE!"
The three Canadians in attendance are Kenny, Mike Angels and Jason Geiger. The Canadian Waffle Set (¥1000) is kahlúa, coffee and maple syrup in milk. A cookie also comes with it.

(source)
Griffon591: "My impression was that I drank ... coffee milk. It is accidental or on purpose that almost no alcohol was felt? ... but it is certainly easy to drink."
There is a Q&A session. The customers write questions on sheets of paper and give them to Michael who then translates them for Kenny and Mike to answer.

[So, Griffon591 and Extreme Party don't always match up on the answers, or a statement is attributed to Mike in one account and Kenny in another. Generally I went with the more detailed answer or the one I understood.]
-What indie groups would you like to compete in?
Kenny: "2-chome!"
Mike: "Ice Ribbon!"
-What's the first dirty phrase you learned in Japanese?
Kenny: "Tomomitsu Matsunaga always teaches me, but the first thing he taught me to say to women was:'o shiri kashite kudasai'"(Please give me your butt)
Mike: "I still can't remember any"
-(For Kenny) Would you marry a Japanese woman?
Kenny: "You cannot marry men right? In Canada I can get married... I'll wait until the law changes."
-Do you want to live in Japan?
Kenny: "I want to succeed first in the United States, I want to bring DDT to the United States, so not for now."
-What is your favorite game?
Kenny: "Dragon Quest VII" (joking) // "Castlevania"
Mike: "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"
-(To Mike) Hobbies?
Mike: "Golf"
Kenny: "Mike likes table tennis"
Mike: "Nothing like that"
-Why are you interested in street wrestling?
Kenny: "Because there are pretty girls on the street, for Mike because there are animals on the street (joking). I started wrestling out on the street because I wanted to do anything."
-(to Mike) Who would you like to have a match with?
Mike: "Ibushi, Yoshihiko."
-"What's the origin of the 'PK Kokoro Ω' of the finisher you used at Keiokaku (Velodrome)?
Kenny: "It's a special move from the game 'Mother 2'. I would like to put in my favorite words after the PK, but with the hearts of the Golden Lovers and the heart shape of the two, I inserted it with a heart. By the way, α is on the ring, β is the third rope, γ is the second rope, and Ω is from the top rope."
-What groups and players are interested in other than DDT? Excepting Mr. No. 6, Riho and Tanaka Safety.
Kenny: "It's very difficult then ... Mekammamy, Marufuji or Kana
-If you were a woman for one day what would you do?
Kenny: (after saying something ridiculous, say again?) [This is Michael asking him to repeat I think] "I want to use a tampon."
Michael: "I couldn't stop him..."
Mike: "I want to win arguments because mostly my girlfriend wins when I'm in a couple."
Kenny: "I want to be a sex worker!"
-Which is more important, a woman's face or body?
Kenny & Mike: "Personality."
-Is the golden shower shitaneta?
Kenny: "I hate shitaneta! That's not the case! It's because the Golden Lovers are falling from the sky."
-(To Mike) How old are you?
Mike: "31" Also he is a junior high school teacher. He wanted to go to the 9/6 campground wrestling, but can't because summer vacation will be over.
-(To Mike) What promotion/s are you from?
Mike: "PCW (Premier Championship Wrestling) where Kenny also comes from."
-(To Mike) What do you think of the BL relationship between Ibushi and Kenny?
Mike: (After BL and kichin[?] are explained to him by Michael)"... your heart is healed"
-What surprised you most when you came to Japan?
Kenny: "I am always impressed by the fans"
Mike: "I'm surprised at the heat of Japan."
-(To Kenny) Is your love with Ibushi true?
A. Kenny: (immediate answer)"Of course. It is difficult to explain to people, but I and Ibushi know each other. There is a love that can not be broken by breaking between the two. It's not that kind of pretend, it's true. "
-When was your first love?
Kenny: "16 years old." In the hallway a year below the same school, by chance that they passed each other. Kenny confessed and invited to a wrestling show, but at that time Kenny was not wrestling but constructing the ring.
Mike: "13 years old. It was a friend of my sister but I moved and broke up."
Griffon591: "The questions were quite ordinary like this, but ...
Unfortunately, as expected, Kenny has made a big runaway with the shitaneta. w"
They play pictionary again. Team Kenny vs team Mike.

Mike's team loses so he has to go make drinks.
Kenny: "I think today was Kenny Omega night, but I think it was also Mike Angels night, so I want Mike to say a word."
Mike “The support of the Japanese fans in this trip was amazing enough to be overwhelmed. I wish the Canadian fans were so passionate.
It's great to say that you have a fan who understands what you're doing in your ring. I really love to hear from the fans. Today was a good opportunity to do that. I think it's great to say that people who are usually in different environments gather at one place like this. We will do our best in Ryogoku, and we will be happy if everyone is entertained and happy to return."
Kenny: "Every time I do Kenny Omega Night, I always want to celebrate something, but this time I don't have a champion belt, or an award, but a friend who came here this time... I want to celebrate that not only Mike and Michael but everyone who came here is a friend and that they all meet in one place. Every time I do Kenny Omega Night, I am so happy that so many fans will come. Not only that a lot of people came, but it is very nice to see those who were supporting me for the same thing a year ago.
And so it came to me, I wonder if everyone likes my jokes? I'm glad I can know it. I do not want to say such things ... but I will not stop!
Thanks for coming! We look forward to the next Kenny Omega Night"

August 23rd - DDT Ryōgoku Peter Pan
It's the big Ryōgoku show! It's DDT's first show here. In 2008 they ran their big summer show at Korakuen.
(For contrast, Korakuen has a capacity of 2,005 while Ryōgoku Kokugikan seats 11,098! I'm not saying they actually filled all 11,098 seats but the point is it's a much bigger venue)
Kenny is in a 4-way for the KO-D tag championships, partnering with Mike Angels against
KUDO & Yasu Urano, Francesco Togo & PIZA Michinoku and Jun Kasai & MIKAMI. DDT Universe Link

Antonio Honda cuts a promo promising that the Italian horsemen wont lose to teams from Canada, Japan or Zimbabwe. Kenny and Mike don't understand of course, so Antonio repeats in Canadian that 'Canada is stupid!' Mike is so mad he squishes an apple.
Kenny and Mike are the first team to be eliminated when Mike gets rolled up and pinned by MIKAMI. The match is won by KUDO & Yasu Urano.
Afterwards is Kota Ibushi vs HARASHIMA for the KO-D Openweight title. DDT Universe Link

(source)
It's an intense match but Ibushi comes out on top. HARASHIMA is gracious in defeat and puts the belt around Ibushi's waist himself.

This is his very first KO-D Openweight title win.

Ibushi: "First of all ... Thank you very much. I didn't think that DDT would really be able to play in Ryogoku Kokugikan. I am so happy to see so many gathered and to be in the main event, winning a title match in front of so many people. DDT is taking off now! Thank you very much today!"

August 24th - Goodbye Mike! + One day after Ryogoku Peter Pan
Mike has to go back to Canada for the start of the school term. Mike, Kenny, Ibushi, Michael and HARASHIMA go out for a farewell party before Mike's flight the next morning. After dropping him off at the station, Michael, Kenny and Ibushi go to the arcade and take turns playing Castlevania. They don't do very well and have to keep putting coins in.
They make plans to go to the beach the day after next so that Kenny can 'see girls in Japanese swimsuits' Ibushi has a favorite spot with a water slide so they decide to go there.
August 26th - Catch me if you can

They go to the beach/water park! Michael's initial blog entry for this is very bikini focused but he posts up a few more photos over the next couple of days.

(source)
Michael: The photo is from the last time at the sea front. Double Brain Buster by Golden Lovers. The two of them did it suddenly, the junior high school students who took the photo were surprised. (Lol)
August 27th - A total of three quarters of the world-a special year-over-year special! ... held interview!
There's a short press conference announcing some upcoming joint events between DDT, K-DOJO and BJW. They announce a show at Hakata Starlanes on December 13th and a New Year's Eve show in Korakuen Hall. (Yes that New Years Eve show) Also Ibushi made the cover of Weekly Pro Wrestling.

August 28th - Kenny goes to Sportiva and everyone else gets hammered

Kenny and Ibushi eat with Matsui and then split up.
Kenny went to Sportiva Arena in Nagoya for a tag match teaming with Xevius vs Shigehiro Irie & Mammoth Handa. Its a more athletic based match than his last singles with Irie in February, but still culminates with ass-related antics.

Meanwhile, back in Tokyo the DDT wrestlers hold a night festival at dropkick to celebrate the success of Ryogoku.
Some people make an effort to dress up formally, Michael wears a suit jacket over a tank top. Ibushi wears a shirt which I confess I also owned in 2009.

Ibushi mixing 'special creations'.

Michael gets an anal bomb because what situation isn't appropriate for an anal bomb at this point?

Ibushi holding Michael down with his knee for another one.

Michael: "It's a demon!"
More cocktail mixing:

Someone:"Pour it with your eyes closed!"

Ibushi: "I did it."
August 30th - Union Wrestling and NJPW/Jado & Gedo Produce GET OUT OF MY WAY
There are two shows today. Union's '"Go! Union! ~ ~ Under the name of Union ~' started at 11:00 while 'GET OUT OF MY WAY' was from 18:00.
Kenny is in the qualifying rumble which will decide which three wrestlers get to face Gaijin A, Gaijin A and Gaijin A later on in the show. Entrants include Tanaka Safety Wrestling and Dragon Solider Law.

(source)
Unfortunately, the three winners end up being Sanshiro Takagi & Kenny Omega & Yusuke Inokuma which is going to be a problem because they are the ones who play Gaijin A, Gaijin A and Gaijin A.
(source)
Before the match the ring announcer comes and announces that Takagi, Omega & Inokuma have been tragically injured with 'whole body fractures, whole body bruises, whole body burns, acute alcohol poisoning, 14 C4 and acquired chronic alopecia for a total recovery time of 25 years.'
So in the end everyone who didn't win the match comes out instead.

Everyone fights the team of Gaijin but also each other maybe? Gaijin A turns on Gaijin A, people are stabbed with forks, general mayhem ensues.

The match ends when everyone falls down and God comes to the ring. He asks for an end to this pointless conflict and sings 'We Are The World.'

:'D
Obviously Ibushi's New Japan match that night couldn't hope to top that.
It's Jushin Thunder Liger, Kota Ibushi, The Great Sasuke & Tiger Mask vs Dick Togo, Koji Kanemoto, Ryusuke Taguchi & TAKA Michinoku, and features some truly amazing hair from a young Taguchi.

He's putting Kenny to shame here.
Post match comment from Ibushi: "I would be glad if you could do a single match with Kanamoto-san. I really want to win a singles match. Thank you very much. "
August 31st - DDT NON-FIX
Michael has an interesting blog entry on this date. It seems this is when he and Ibushi filmed the photocopier video with Gene.

DDT NON-FIX is at Shinkiba that evening. Kenny wins his singles match against Masa Takanashi but Kota Ibushi, KUDO & Yasu Urano lose in the main event against MIKAMI, Poison Sawada JULIE & Sanshiro Takagi. This sets up a title defense for Kota against MIKAMI at the September Korakuen show.

September 3rd - Tomorrow or today is Kenny and S Arena.

Kenny stays over at Michael's house for a couple of days. They get to go on a Capcom tour and are given lots of free merchandise. They also run into Taiji Ishimori at Midbreath and marvel at his gorgeous body.

September 4th - S Arena

Kenny and Michael did a live interview with Sayoko Mita on Samurai TV and Griffon591 posted a summary of it the day afterwards. [As usual if I was really unclear on the meaning of parts I left them out as not to spread misinformation. There are more questions on Griffon591's post that I have not included here so I recommend checking it out.]
Mita: "Michael has been doing a lot of bad things at DDT, but is Michael good from Kenny's point of view?"
Kenny: “It's always funny but ...a little painful when you look at it (like anal blasting). It was good it wasn't me (lol)... but I saw my own match after that and Michael’s was better.”
Mita: "How was participating in the beer garden after what followed from last year?"
Kenny: "(Participation + producing) was one of the motivations of this visit to Japan. It was like one dream came true, and then the next dream continued fast. Talking about far the future, I think I would like to produce my own group someday as I did this time."
Mita: "In Japan?"
Kenny: "I think Japan is impossible. Scandinavia or Africa."(laughs)
Mita: "But there is no Tanaka safety wrestling in Africa!"
Kenny: "Yeah, there's no karaoke box there either. I also want to have a match in a karaoke box like Tanaka safety. He is a genius to do wrestling in such a place!"

Kenny: "Every time I see the anal wound, it was wounded like Jun Kasai’s back, and I was really worried about Michael this time."
Mita: “I am interested in this story, you saw Michael's ass?"
Kenny: "Oh I’ve seen it many times w"
Mita: (to Michael) "By the way, does your father know what was ignited?"
Michael: "I only talked about fireworks used for the OP, but my mother and younger brother came to the show, so the information may be transmitted."
Mita: "After that, please contact me?"
Michael: "No ..."
On Kenny's match at Ryogoku:
Mita: "Was it a big experience to have this big match?"
Kenny: "Of course. Once it started, the 9,000 spectators were not visible, so the big experience happened before the match rather than in the match. The only difference I noticed was that the spotlight was hotter and brighter than usual and that there were more people there."
Mita: "Are you disappointed that you could not win the belt?"
Kenny: "Actually, my goal was to entertain fans who came to Ryogoku as much as possible rather than the belt itself. Above all, my dream as a tag team will only be realized with Ibushi."
Mita: "For Kenny, is Ibushi special?"
Kenny: "Yeah"(while shyly)
Michael: "I have not been working as an interpreter between the two recently. It's really a conversation in Japanese and English. (Ibushi also speaks English). But it is broken in the nuances."
Kenny: "It's in telepathy" (laughs)
[There is some stuff immediately after this about Kenny's thoughts on Ibushi's match with Harashima at the show, and how focused he was before it. Kenny describes it as something like 'he is normally playful before matches but on that night he was only at 80% playfulness' But I don't understand the back and forth of it enough to include it as exchange.]
On the golden shower:
Kenny: "I couldn't have thought of it by myself. Seeing the craziness of Ibushi, I was given the inspiration. That is how we mutually enhance each other. I cannot do it with anyone else. "... "The phoenix splash has different rotations depending on the person, but for some reason Ibushi and I were able to do the same speed."
Mita: "Were you able to do it immediately?"
Kenny: "No, at first we did practice. But eventually you can't fly each other unless you trust each other. What made this possible was how much we trusted each other, at the same time, it's about saying you love each other."

On the topic of the upcoming Campground wrestling:
Mita: "Are you good at fighting in this kind of place?"
Kenny: "Of course, but so far so much ... I did something close to it with Mike ..."
Griffon: According to Michael, Ibushi is currently buying fireworks himself, and every time he buys, he reports to it Michael by email.
Kenny: "Ibushi may be preparing by buying fireworks, but I will prepare mentally." (laughs)
Mita: “Where and what do you want to do?”
Kenny: "No. I just want to do what no one is doing yet."
Mita: "And Michael?"
Michael: "No ... I will just run away. I can see the power balance of these three teams, so I know ..."
Kenny: "Because someone doesn't regret it, as someone cannot do it, I need someone who can do it (laughs) But I cannot do anything crazy with President Takagi."
Michael: "I have an escape technique cultivated at OPG."
Griffon591: (Since Ibushi's new moves are mainly received by Ihashi and Michael at OPG Dojo, Michael seems to always flee from it.)

September 5th - S Arena, Ice Ribbon 113 and Mr. Gannosuke Produce Kishindo Returns
The Ice Ribbon Show was at 13:00, Masa Takanashi & Natsuki Taiyo defeated Kenny & Miyako Matsumoto.

(source)
The other show was at Shin-Kiba was that evening, Kenny Omega & Yuko Miyamoto defeated Masato Tanaka & Mineo Fujita. [EDIT: Griffon591 was at this too (link)]

S Arena finished, and tomorrow ....
Michael: "Well, I was nervous about the live broadcast. (Sweat)
There were a parts I interpreted sloppily but was it okay? It was fun to do anyway. Kenny said afterwards, "Because it's live I just do not say shitaneta, it was hard to hold down!" Idiot. (lol)
It was a topic in the broadcast, but it is a campsite of tomorrow where the power balance of the three teams is strange but I will do my best! I have to prepare for something to protect against Ibushi who buys fireworks.
Bonus photo: Finding a huge spider, "I have never seen such a kind in Canada!" Kenny who photographs it and Ibushi who photographs Kenny. These two are my enemies tomorrow!"

I wanted to get to the end of this visit in one post but it's getting a little unwieldy so that's it for now.
Next time! Campground wrestling and going home. Thanks for reading!
Part 8
